JAWS - Journalism and Women's Symposium

JAWS brings together women journalists and journalism educators and researchers from across the country — and sometimes the world — to meet in an atmosphere of mutual support, professional growth. The group supports the professional empowerment and personal growth of women in journalism and works toward a more accurate portrayal of the whole society.” JAWS began in 1985, when Tad Bartimus of the Associated Press invited 15 women from diverse backgrounds on a retreat in the Rockies. The group now has hundreds of members. committed to the ideas of renewal, affirmation and serious examination of our professional lives.

I joined JAWS in 2006 just before my reinvention as a freelance photographer, so taking photos at JAWS is good experience. I served on the JAWS Board from 2008-2010.
